A full facelift repositions the deeper layer of the face and neck through incisions around the ear and hairline, tackling jowls, jawline contour, and neck looseness together. Temporary weakness of a small branch of the facial nerve can cause the corner of the mouth to move less, and this often resolves on its own in weeks. A sudden new weakness, a smile that becomes more uneven rather than improving, or one side of the face not moving at all should be checked quickly. Your surgeon checks for blood collections, wound healing, and hair growth at each follow-up visit. Signs that need immediate attention include one side swelling rapidly, skin turning dusky, or drainage that does not stop. Yes, previous treatments can create scar tissue that makes the surgical plane harder to find and more likely to bleed. Threads, in particular, can leave fibrosis that adds time and complexity to the dissection. We ask for a full history of any prior facial procedures, including injectables, so your surgeon can plan the approach with those challenges in mind.

A full facelift resets the face to a younger position, and the result usually looks meaningful for many years. Your face continues to age from that new starting point, so you will look better than if you had never had the lift, but you will not stay frozen at that age. The result softens gradually rather than disappearing suddenly, and skin quality, weight changes, and sun exposure all affect how long it stays fresh.

Small contour issues are judged after the skin and deeper tissue have matured, usually at least 6 months out.
