A mid-face lift addresses the cheek fat pad that has dropped downward, which softens the hollow below the eye and flattens the cheek area. It improves the lid-to-cheek transition and can lessen the depth of the upper part of nasolabial folds. It does not remove deep etched folds or treat jowls the way a lower facelift does. A mid-face lift repositions your own cheek tissue upward to restore where it was in a younger face. A lower facelift targets the jawline and jowls, filler adds volume without moving tissue, and fat grafting fills hollows but does not lift what has dropped. The cheeks look high and full for several weeks, with visible swelling improving over about 2 to 3 weeks. Smile stiffness, subtle numbness, and the gradual settling into a natural position can take anywhere from 3 months to 1 year, depending on the individual. Temporary numbness in the cheek, upper lip, and scalp is normal because the surgery works near small sensory nerves, and recovery follows a predictable pattern over weeks to months. Shrinking numbness and returning tingling are encouraging signs. Your surgeon distinguishes between temporary stretch-related numbness and motor weakness, which would need quicker evaluation.

Some stiffness in smiling is expected early on because the cheek tissue has been repositioned and is still swollen. A smile that stays uneven after the swelling has largely gone down, or one that suddenly becomes more uneven, should be looked at sooner. Nobody has a perfectly symmetric face to begin with, so the goal is better balance, not mirrored halves. The repositioned cheek support can last many years, but the skin and ligaments continue aging and folds formed by smiling never fully vanish. Nasolabial folds usually soften, not disappear. The result gradually changes as the tissues age from their new starting point, rather than expiring on a fixed date. We check your progress over time and note how well the lift is holding.

Revision is only planned once swelling and scar contraction have settled, and options include adjusting the fixation, reducing volume, or adding a lower-face procedure if the original diagnosis did not cover the full picture.
